I love to travel around Southeast Asia if only because I'm on a temple tripping kick. The region after all has a rich Hindu-Buddhist tradition. The kind that produces the magnificent Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Indonesia.
You can't see these structures in my country. We debated the reasons behind this in our graduate class in archaeology. We never resolved it though. This reminds me of a phrase by Egyptologist/novelist Elizabeth Peters who noted that archaeologists will debate minutiae even in a sinking ship but won't resolve anything. Ok, I'm digressing here…
That said, the Philippines is home to some beautiful historic churches – they may not be as grandiose as Angkor Wat, but beautiful nonetheless. And I wrote about that in my first guest post in Indie Travel Podcast. Thanks Craig and Linda for allowing me to guest post!
I have to agree on traveling through Southeast Asia. I went to Angkor Wat a few years ago and it still remains one of my favorite places that I’ve seen. It really is magnificent.
Hi Steve! My (and lil sis too) next project is to go to Borobudur in Indonesia. We both think that’s more fascinating than Angkor Wat.
